All Duck or No Dinner at Bresca

What: Chef Ryan Ratino’s Michelin-starred Bresca followed through on its mission to incorporate a vintage duck press into its service last year, and now it’s dedicating one entire night to a special “all duck” dinner experience. The founder and CEO of D’Artagnan will also be at the dinner.

Details: The three-course dinner centered around duck-centric dishes (foie gras and beignets, duck wings) is $85 per person, with wine pairings for $40 extra. A limited à la carte menu will also be available. 1906 14th Street NW

“First Draft” Soft Opening Charity Event

What: To celebrate Bottleneck Management’s newest restaurant in Tysons Corner, City Works will host a preview party with its full menu of short ribs, duck nachos, and burgers, along with an open bar. The restaurant will be open to the public beginning at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28, with 90 local, regional, and global craft beers on draft.

Private Performance at Toki Underground

What: The H Street ramen spot will host local indie soul band Oh He Dead for an intimate performance at 9 p.m.

Details: The $40 ticket includes drinks like a house sangria, Sapporo, and April Showers cocktail (Haku vodka, lavender water, calpico, lime), along with bites like yuzu and cream profiteroles and miso popcorn available for purchase. 1234 H Street NE

New Burger Deal at Gaslight Tavern

What: It’s opening day for a new $10 burger-and-brew special at the roaring 20s-inspired bar. The Tavern Burger includes two beef patties smothered in American cheese, onion escabeche, and the bar’s eponymous Tavern sauce. Moving forward, the special will stick around on the menu Tuesdays to Fridays.

Saturday, June 1

Northeast Eats 2019

What: DC Brau is inviting a slew of Northeast-based food and drink companies to show off their offerings under one roof for one Saturday only. Vendors on tap include One Eight Distilling, Sloppy Mamas BBQ, Exotic Chef, Ruby Scoops, The Pug, Wunder Garten, and Harpeth Swill.

Details: 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tickets are $50 and $20 for those under 21. Proceeds from the event will directly benefit each of the participating vendors. 3178 Bladensburg Road NE

Sunday, June 2

8th Annual Sunday Supper Benefit at La Cosecha

What: Union Market’s anticipated Latin American market is opening its doors to the public for the first time ahead of its official debut later this summer. A lineup of top chefs will cook a large-scale dinner to benefit the James Beard Foundation’s Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership (WEL) Program, which helps rising female chefs and owners expand their businesses.

Details: The headlining chef this year is James Beard Foundation Award-winning chef Mary Sue Milliken (Border Grill Restaurants, Los Angeles), joined by D.C. chefs like Johanna Hellrigl (Doi Moi, Bird’s Eye Coffee Bar & Eatery) and Daniela Moreira (Timber Pizza, Call Your Mother), among others. Books in Bloom

What: Award-winning chef and global humanitarian José Andrés will headline the third annual book festival at Merriweather Post Pavilion. His new cookbook, Vegetables Unleashed, was just released this week.

Details: The daylong festival features readings by big-name authors, panel discussions, children’s activities throughout the grounds, Skylawn bars serving rosé, bubbles and beer, live music, and a pop-up bookstore by Busboys & Poets. The festival is free and open to the public.
