Ice Cream Jubilee opened in Ballston’s Quarter Market food hall over the weekend

New scoops

Ice Cream Jubilee, the essential D.C. brand blending flavors such as banana caramel bourbon, cookies and cookie dough, and strawberry tres leches, opened its fourth local location on Friday in Arlington. The sweets shop joined the first phase of food stalls inside the new Quarter Market food hall in Ballston.

Since opening a Navy Yard store in 2014, owner Victoria Lai has expanded Ice Cream Jubilee with locations in Logan Circle and, last November, at the Taste of Urban Space food court inside Tysons Galleria. According to its newsletter, Ice Cream Jubilee opened its latest counter with 16 flavors. The Quarter Market location opens daily at noon and closes 9 p.m. on Monday through Friday, at 10 p.m. on Saturday, and at 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Hot Lola’s, the Sichuan spicy fried chicken sandwich place from Himitsu co-owner Kevin Tien, is already open in the food hall. So is Spanish spot Copa Kitchen & Bar.

Japanese comforts

Masako Morishita, a co-founder of Momo Yakitori on Rhode Island Avenue NE, has started a new Japanese comfort food company, Washington City Paper reports. Morishita might serve Asian arancini, savory pancakes, and miso-butter peanuts when Otabe takes over downtown incubator space Prequel on April 7 for a $100 Sakura night pop-up in partnership with bartenders Al Thompson (Barmini), Will Alvarez (Green Zone) and Heriberto Cassanero (Copycat). Flock to Falls Church

Today marks the beginning of Falls Church Restaurant Week, which means a handful of discounts and prix fixe deals for diners in the Northern Virginia suburb. For example, Taco Bamba is offering three traditional Mexican tacos and a side of street corn for $10, and Yume Sushi is discounting everything on the menu by 20 percent during weekday dinners. See the full list of participants here. [Falls Church News-Press]
