As you continue to celebrate the beauty of fall by drinking your Pumpkin Spice Lattes and lighting your pumpkin-scented candles, Trader Joe's is making sure that another fall staple doesn't go overlooked this year with the brand's newest addition to its frozen food section: Butternut Squash Mac & Cheese.

According to a description of the brand new product on the Trader Joe's website, Butternut Squash Mac & Cheese wasn't originally an item that the grocery chain meant to put on shelves. The short description explains that a product developer for the company accidentally pitched the idea when she made butternut squash mac & cheese as part of an attempt to sell a can of organic butternut squash puree to a tasting panel.

"Not only did she convince the panel we should offer the puréed product this fall, the panel then convinced her to find a supplier to make the fantastic Butternut Squash Mac & Cheese to offer in our freezers," it reads. "Boy oh boy, did she deliver!"

The new frozen food item features mezzi rigatoni pasta smothered in a sauce made with three cheeses - Cheddar, Gouda, and Parmesan - as well as a béchamel sauce, the butternut squash puree, and seasonal spices.

We know fall weather can be a little tricky sometimes, so mixing butternut squash with mac & cheese instead of eating it in soup form definitely puts a fun and toned down twist on the fall favorite. Butternut Squash Mac & Cheese is now available at Trader Joe's locations nationwide for $2.99 while supplies last.
