103-year-old runner sets records, inspires others in the process

At 103 years old, Julia “Hurricane” Hawkins may shock you with her athletic ability. "I used to do biking, and 5K and 10K in the Senior Olympics nationally," Hawkins said. Now, her sights are set on a bigger goal. "At 100, I started running," Hawkins said. "I thought it would be neat to run at 100 and do the 100-yard dash in less than a minute." Recently, Hawkins ran the 100-meter dash in 46.07 seconds, setting a new record and winning the gold medal at the National Senior Games. Her story is proving to be an inspiration to others. "I hope I’m inspiring them to be healthy and realize you can still be doing it at this kind of age if you keep yourself busy and active most of your life," Hawkins said.
