Latex Gloves Banned in California Restaurants Starting This January

Up to 6% of the U.S. population is estimated to have a latex allergy. And that number increases to 17% among healthcare and food service workers. Because being around latex can actually cause an allergy to the substance. So it is for the protection of workers and customers that California just passed a ban on latex products Senate Bill No. 677 prohibits latex gloves and utensils in any food retail and production facilities. The bill says that alternatives made from nitrile, vinyl, or polyethylene will be required. Five other states have also passed similar legislation.
