Officer volunteers with program that inspired him as a kid

Abdul Mir has wanted to be a police officer since he was a child. But, being born in Pakistan, that never seemed like an option. "They’re very corrupt police officers," Mir said. "I mean, you get some crime, you pay someone $50 and you’re out of there. Here, you can’t do that." After moving to the U.S., his dream of becoming a police officer was reignited in his senior year of high school through a program called P.A.C.E.: Police athletics for community engagement. The uniforms and equipment are free, and everyone is welcome to play. "Seeing the men and women in blue here really made me actually want to pursue criminology and become a police officer here," Mir said.
