Washington Has Over 1,000 Wineries, and It's Just Getting Started

Much has been made about America's brewery growth, from about 1,600 in 2009 to likely over 8,000 today. But wineries in the U.S. have also seen impressive growth—from 6,357 wineries in 2009 to over 10,000 now. The Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board has 1,010 active winery licenses. Steve Warner, Washington State Wine However, California makes up 86% of U.S. production whereas Washington only accounts for 5%. But Warner believes crossing the thousand mark is only just the beginning. Washington may not be the only state with more wineries than you realize. Wines Vines Analytics says its data from July lists at least 13 states with over 100 wineries. You're almost certainly not doing as much wine tasting as you could when you travel around the U.S.
