Watch Strongman Eddie Hall Take Hard Punches to the Chest and Abs

Former World's Strongest Man winner turned boxer Eddie Hall has spent the last year leaning down and focusing on cardio and speedwork as well as strength training, in anticipation of his upcoming grudge match against rival strongman Hafthor Bjornsson. And as fight day approaches, Eddie is upping the ante in his workouts, as evidenced by a recent YouTube video, filmed during one of his chest and ab training sessions.

Eddie starts off with incline bench press, working his way up through the weights until he's lifting 495 pounds. "I've not used that for a long time," he says, "but I've started using it more now; obviously building up those core muscles will help massively with the boxing, so I'm all for it."

He follows this with the cable press, where he makes the most of the added resistance by practicing his punching form on each side of his body at the same time. "We're working the shoulder, the bicep, the tricep, the obliques, the hips, everything is getting a bit of action here," he says. "It's all about that punching power."

Next, Eddie completes grueling sets of chest flys and cable pulldowns, before things get a little less conventional.

"Rather than do my ab wheel, I thought I haven't been hit in the guts for a long time," he says, before his training partner Paddy dons a boxing glove and starts laying into his abs. In true Eddie Hall form, he has to pause the workout as a particularly hard punch causes him to soil himself (a surprisingly common occurrence in The Beast's training sessions). "Nothing I could have done," he says. "It just fell out of me."

They quickly resume the brutal routine, with Paddy punching Eddie as hard as he can. "If that doesn't get your abs, I don't know what will," he says. "Honestly, they feel destroyed from tensing so hard. And pooing."
