Ask virtually anyone over 40 who hasn’t yet finished their high school diploma or college degree and they’ll tell you that they wish they had—in fact, one meta-analysis of 11 studies reveals that education-related regrets were the most common among adults.

1. Exaggerated Education

Taking a single summer course at a university isn’t exactly the same thing as getting an undergraduate degree there, but that doesn’t stop the majority of people from talking up their eduction experience. Scott Samuels, CEO of executive search firm Horizon Hospitality, revealed to Monster that he even once had someone “put down Cornell School of Hotel Management on their résumé, when they only took one class online.”
