When Jennifer Garner walks a red carpet, she's the epitome of grace and poise, but recently, she's been plagued by wardrobe malfunctions — and Wednesday was no different.

The actress hosted the Save the Children Illumination Gala in New York City, bringing light to an important cause to her heart, but her enthusiasm for the charity's work must have literally shaken her from head to toe — because when she moved down the red carpet, her earring didn't go with her.

The mild gaffe was momentary, and she had plenty of help fixing her jewelry — from a Kennedy, no less. Mark Shriver, son of Eunice Kennedy, JFK's sister, leapt forward to pick the lost earring off the carpet. Having squared that away, Garner was able to get back to the more important topic at hand: her work as Save the Children's trustee, and her fight for education opportunities for kids who aren't getting them.

"We've come to a place where millions of our country's children are not thriving," she said during her speech. "Only five percent of philanthropic dollars put the funding work in rural America, by the way. I hope this statistic makes you a little bit mad, because just thinking about it gets me really feisty."

She continued, "The great Warren Buffet said, 'These are problems society has left behind because they are hard.' They are hard, but helping kids and their parents who love them is the most optimistic work out there."
