In the 1940s, what’s now this three-bedroom Georgetown home used to be the east wing of the Friendship estate, then owned by Washington socialite and mining heiress Evalyn Walsh McLean. McLean is famously known as a former proprietor of the 44.5-carat Hope Diamond, which today rests at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History. Meanwhile, the home recently hit the market for $2,250,000, boasting 2,700 square feet and 3.5 bathrooms.

The Hope Diamond isn’t the only piece of history this home has hosted. The deep backyard comes with Kingsville Boxwoods trees originally gifted by Jackie Kennedy, and there’s also marble flooring inside that’s from the Old Ebbitt Hotel. The living room features roughly 12-foot ceilings, a wood fireplace, patterned hardwood floors, and big south-facing bay windows that let in abundant natural light. Upstairs, there are built-in shelves in the master bedroom, plus double closets and more bay windows overlooking the pool and garden in the rear. The lower level features the dining room and the gourmet kitchen, including modern appliances.

Located near Dumbarton Oaks and various businesses and restaurants on Wisconsin Avenue NW, the home has one parking space as well as exposed brick. It last sold for $1,672,500 in 2013, according to property records. Janice Pouch with Compass is representing the seller.
