Grocery shopping will never be the same after the coronavirus pandemic. Things like grabbing a cart or basket and not wiping it down with a sanitizing wipe or loading the conveyor belt while someone else is still checking out are a thing of the past.

And while grocery stores are updating safety regulations and growing their online shopping services, some are adding physical locations to their lineups.

Meijer recently announced five new superstores are coming to Manitowoc, Wisconsin, Sycamore, Illinois, and Bad Axe, Michigan. Two Ohio locations will be in Brimfield and Lorain.

The superstores will be a whopping 159,000-square-feet. They'll have of tons of different products like apparel, home supplies, pet goods, and, of course, food and produce. Customers will be able to choose between 600 fresh fruits and vegetables, plus 150 certified organic items, according to Supermarket News.

Like all Meijer grocery stores, the new superstores will have safety measures in place because of the pandemic. All five will be open from 6 a.m. to midnight. They are also offering special shopping hours reserved for seniors, those with health conditions, and essential.

"Our store teams are ready to keep our stores stocked and provide the cleanest shopping environment possible as we work together in the new communities that have welcomed us," says Rick Keyes, the president, and CEO. "These new stores reinforce our ongoing commitment to serving the needs of communities at a time when everyone is looking for a one-stop shopping experience."

All of the new Meijer locations will be available to shop online with delivery and pickup, plus other Meijer app services. One, Shop&Scan, offers customers an easy way to avoid long checkout lines — they just have to scan items as they browse and then pay through the app.
