Its orthopaedic reconstructive devices restore function lost due to disease or trauma in joints such as knees, hips, shoulders and elbows. Its dental reconstructive implants restore function and aesthetics in patients who have lost teeth due to trauma or disease. Its spinal devices are utilized by orthopaedic surgeons and neurosurgeons in the treatment of degenerative diseases, deformities and ...moretrauma in all regions of the spine. Its trauma products are devices used to reattach or stabilize damaged bone and tissue to support the body's natural healing process. The Company has its operations in more than 25 countries and markets its products in more than 100 countries. The Company operates in a single industry but have three reportable geographic segments, the Americas, Europe and Asia Pacific. The Americas, which is comprised of the U.S. and includes other North, Central and South American markets; Europe, which is comprised of Europe and includes the Middle East and African markets; and Asia Pacific, which is comprised of Japan and includes other Asian and Pacific markets. The Company's customers include orthopaedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, oral surgeons, dentists, hospitals, stocking distributors, healthcare dealers and, in their capacity as agents, healthcare purchasing organizations or buying groups. It markets and sells its products through three channels; direct to healthcare institutions, such as hospitals, referred to as direct channel accounts; through stocking distributors and healthcare dealers; and directly to dental practices and dental laboratories. The Company operates distribution facilities domestically in Warsaw, Indiana; Southaven, Mississippi; and Carlsbad, California and internationally in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, the Czech Republic, China, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand and the United Kingdom. The Company competes with the DePuy Synthes Companies of Johnson & Johnson, Stryker Corporation, Biomet, Inc., and Smith & Nephew plc. It protects its proprietary rights through a variety of methods, including confidentiality agreements and proprietary information agreements with vendors, employees, consultants and others who may have access to proprietary information.
