BJ's Restaurants Inc was incorporated in California on October 1, 1991. As of December 31, 2013, the Company owned and operated 146 restaurants located in 17 states (California, Texas, Florida, Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, Ohio, Washin...moregton, Oklahoma, Oregon, Kentucky, Virginia, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland and New Mexico). Each of its restaurants is currently operated as a BJs Restaurant & Brewery®, BJs Restaurant & Brewhouse®, BJs Pizza & Grill® or BJs Grill®. During fiscal 2013, it opened 17 new restaurants. Four of the Companys locations brew its signature, proprietary craft BJs beer on the restaurant premises. All of its other restaurants receive their BJs beer either from one of these four brewery locations and/or independent third party brewers. The Company currently operates in one oper...moreating segment: casual dining restaurants, four of which have on-premise brewing operations that produce BJs signature, proprietary craft beers for its restaurants. It operates in one geographic area; the United States of America. The Company has registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office its standard and seasonal beer logos and names, as well as many of its signature menu item names including Great White and Sweet Pig for its proprietary pizzas, Together At Last! for its proprietary appetizer, Pizookie for its proprietary dessert and Wow, I Love This Place for its proprietary motto. It competes with casual dining chain restaurants and other food and beverage service operations. It also competes with national and regional restaurant chains and locally-owned restaurants. The Company is subject to various federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations that affect its business. Its restaurants and breweries are subject to tied house laws and the three tier system of liquor distribution, both of which were introduced at the federal level after the repeal of Prohibition.lessless
