The Company manufactures and sells railcars and railcar parts, inland barges, structural wind towers, highway products, concrete and aggregates, tank containers, and steel parts and components. In addition, it leases railcars to its customers through a captive leasing business, Trinity Industries Leasing Company. The Company serves its customers through five business groups. Its five operating segments are the Rail Group, Construction Products Group, Inland Barge Group, Energy Equipment Group, and Railcar Leasing and Management Services Group. The Company’s Rail Gr...moreoup is a manufacturer of freight Railcars and tank cars in North America. It also offers railcar solutions to its customers. Through its wholly-owned subsidiaries, primarily Trinity Industries Leasing Company, and a majority-owned subsidiary, TRIP Rail Holdings LLC, the Company offers operating leases for tank cars and freight cars. TILC also offers management and administrative services. It’s Railcar Leasing and Management Services Group is a provider of leasing and management services and an important strategic resource that uniquely links its Rail Group with its customers. Through its wholly owned subsidiaries, the Company's Construction Products Group produces concrete and aggregates and manufactures highway products as well as other steel products for infrastructure-related projects. Through its wholly owned subsidiaries, the Company's Inland Barge Group is the manufacturer of inland barges and fiberglass barge covers in the United States. The Company manufactures a variety of dry cargo barges, such as deck barges, and open or covered hopper barges that transport various commodities, such as grain, coal, and aggregates. It also manufactures tank barges used to transport liquid products. Its fiberglass reinforced lift covers are used mainly for grain barges. Through wholly-owned subsidiaries, its Energy Equipment Group manufactures structural wind towers; utility, traffic, and lighting structures; storage containers; and tank heads for pressure and non-pressure vessels. The Company sells all of its products and services through its own sales personnel operating from offices in multiple locations in the United States as well as Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Singapore, and Sweden. It also uses independent sales representatives to a limited extent. Products manufactured at its railcar manufacturing facilities require a supply of raw materials such as steel, as well as numerous specialty components such as brakes, wheels, axles, side frames, bolsters, and bearings. The main material used in its Rail, Inland Barge, and Energy Equipment Groups is steel. The Company competes with all geographic markets and each industry sector in which it operates.lessless
