The Company’s business consists of the ownership and operation of income-producing real property in...more the greater Washington metro region. It owns a diversified portfolio of office buildings, multifamily buildings and retail centers. The Company has three reportable segments: office, retail, and multifamily. Office buildings provide office space for various types of businesses and professions. Retail centers are typically neighborhood grocery store or drug store anchored retail centers. Multifamily properties provide rental housing for families throughout the Washington metropolitan area. As of December 31, 2013, it owned a diversified portfolio of 56 properties, which consisted of 23office properties, 5 medical office properties (which were subsequently sold on January 21, 2014), 16 retail centers and 12 multifamily properties. The Company’s properties compete for tenants with other properties throughout the respective areas in which they are located on the basis of location, quality and rental rates.
