                  Globe Specialty Metals Inc was incorporated in Delaware on December 23, 2004, under the name International Metal Enterprises, Inc., to serve as a vehicle for the acquisition of operating Companies in the metals and mining industry. I...moren November 2006, the company changed its name to ‘Globe Specialty Metals, Inc.’ It produces silicon metal and silicon-based alloys, important ingredients in different industrial and consumer products. The Company’s customers include silicone chemical, aluminum and steel manufacturers, auto companies and their suppliers, ductile iron foundries, manufacturers of photovoltaic solar cells and computer chips, and concrete producers. It currently owns and operates seven manufacturing facilities mainly in three reportable business segments: GMI, its U.S. operations; Globe Metai...mores, its Brazilian operations; and, Globe Metales, its Argentine operations. Each of its reportable segments distributes its products in both its country of domicile as well as to other international customers. Its products are currently produced in four main operating facilities located in the United States, Brazil and Argentina. Additionally, the company operates facilities in Poland and China. Its flexible manufacturing capabilities allow optimizing production and focusing on products that enhance profitability. It has manufacturing facilities in the U.S. states of Ohio, West Virginia, Alabama and New York, as well as in Mendoza province Argentina and Ningxia province China. The Company produces high-purity chemical and metallurgical grade silicon metal in its Ohio, West Virginia, Alabama and Niagara Falls, New York US plants. Globe Metallurgical subsidiary is the largest producer of silicon metal in North America. It produces specialty foundry alloys at Ohio, USA and Mendoza, Argentina facilities. It is the main suppliers of magnesium ferrosilicon ‘nodularizers’ and ferrosilicon ‘inoculants’ worldwide. It manufactures alloys for the global steel industry in its Mendoza, Argentina and Ohio, USA facilities. Its Yonvey unit produces carbon and graphite electrodes for use in submerged arc metallurgical furnaces. The Company’s competitors are Elkem AS, owned by Orkla ASA, and Grupo Ferroatlantica S.L. In addition, it also faces competition from other companies, such as, Becancour Silicon, Inc., Rima Industrial SA and Ligas de Alumino SA as well as producers in China and the former republics of the Soviet Union. The Company operates facilities in the U.S. and abroad which are subject to foreign, federal, national, state, provincial and local environmental, health and safety laws and regulations, including, among others, those governing the discharge of materials into the environment, hazardous substances, land use, reclamation and remediation and the health and safety of its employees.lessless
