Cervical Cancer Awareness Month: Kaiser doctor says HPV vaccine is key for preventing cervical cancer

January is cervical cancer awareness month. About 13,000 new cases of cervical cancer are diagnosed each year and 4,000 women die, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. But doctors say cervical cancer is highly preventable with regular screening and it’s treatable if it’s caught early. Dr. Zhanetta Harrison, the chief of obstetrics and gynecology with Kaiser Permanente, joined KCRA 3’s morning news to share a message for girls and women.
