A young retail worker has purchased her first home by herself at the age of 25 after exploring 26 countries around the world.

Jess Prior, from Brisbane, bought a $486,000 two-bedroom townhouse last month after she managed to save a $55,000 deposit.

However, the 25-year-old had luck on her side.

Jess - who worked as a educational coordinator for travel company Flight Centre - said she received a five-year redundancy payout of $14,000 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which helped fast-track her way onto the property ladder.

'It put me way ahead, put me a year or two ahead of my (home) buying journey. I never would have expected it,' Jess told news.com.au.

'When I started saving for the house, I already had random savings, it's not like I started from scratch.'

Before Covid hit, she was putting aside $400 to $500 a month.

Jess worked for the travel company for nearly five years, which made it possible to sustain her adventures around the globe.

In 2019, she visited Bali for a holiday in January, headed to California in August for a business trip, jetted off to Morocco in September and wrapped up the year in Canada.

She knew about the best travel deals that were 'heavily discounted' and she received work perks like free trips when she was required to go overseas for business.

However, everything came to a halt when she lost her job amid overseas travel bans.

Jess said she started receiving JobKeeper payments of $750 every week, which helped her put more money aside for a home deposit.

With travel put on hold, she ended up saving between $1,000 to $2,000 per month.

Shortly after, she landed a full time job at a property company and she was able to get a home loan on her own after she saved a 13 per cent deposit.
