A 17-year-old boy is in surgery this morning after he was shot while walking to a school bus stop on the east side, police said.

The teen was shot shortly after 6 a.m. near Linwood Avenue and East Washington Street, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Officer Genae Cook said.

He was unable to tell police what happened. He has been taken to an area hospital where he is undergoing surgery, Cook said.

Fox59 reported that he ran home and told his mother he had been shot before he collapsed.

A second juvenile was shot less than a mile away just hours after the bus stop shooting. Cook said shortly after 8:15 a.m., a child was shot in the 400 block of North Bradley Avenue.

Fox59 reports that the child shot on Bradley was 2-years-old.

Details about the shooting have not been released, but officials said the child is listed in stable condition.
