A Lancaster woman has been charged in the beating of her dog and endangering her child after video surfaced showing her repeatedly kicking and stomping on the pet this weekend, according to the Lancaster Bureau of Police.

The video, which police found on social media, showed Ashley Gaston beating the dog, Trigger, then telling her child to kick him as well, police said. Trigger was taken into police custody and found to have bruised lungs following the incident Friday, police said.

On the video, Gaston stopped her assault on the dog, at one point, to go inside the home and escort her child to the front porch, instructing the child to kick the dog, police said.

Police had visited Gaston, who lives on the 500 block of Beaver Street in Lancaster, on Friday afternoon after someone complained that she had been kicking her dog, a young terrier on her front porch. Gaston told police that the dog bit her son, so she took it outside and hit it once on the head, police reported.

The police found no bite on the son or marks on the dog at that time, but Friday evening, a video of Gaston beating the dog was shared to social media, confirming the earlier complaint, police said.

Charges against Gaston are: aggravated cruelty to animals, endangering the welfare of children, and corruption of minors, police said. She is in Lancaster County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail.

The initial examination of the dog showed bruised lungs, but a more thorough examination was to be done this weekend, police said.
