A Tulsa boy is being hailed a hero after he broke into a hot car and saved a toddler who was locked inside, according to FOX 23 News.

The incident occurred Monday afternoon at a shopping center. A woman told FOX 23 that she and her 12-year-old son were walking into a store when they saw the 2-year-old boy crying in a locked car.

The woman said the boy used a ratchet strap from her car and part of a clothes rack from a store to break the windshield of the car. He then crawled inside to get the child out.

Police said the toddler was red-faced and in a bit of distress, but otherwise doing OK, FOX 23 reported. They found the child’s mother inside the store. She reportedly told police she thought there was another adult in the car when she got out, and police gave her a $250 ticket under the “Forget Me Not” law.

The woman was not arrested because the child was OK and this was her first offense, FOX 23 reported. Police said there will be a DHS investigation.
