Black descendant of Thomas Jefferson opens up about his ancestry
Houston-based news anchor Shannon LaNier was just a child when he learned that he is the sixth-great-grandson of President Thomas Jefferson and an enslaved woman named Sally Hemings. He has since delved into his ancestry and shared with the 3rd hour of TODAY how he hopes a reframing of Jefferson’s legacy could bring healing to our country.
