One woman is now seeing the world through a different lens.

Savannah Allen, 22, has known of her colorblindness since she was little.

"So if I see green, it's usually brown and if I see red, it's usually brown," said Allen.

It wasn't until her second year in her dental hygienist program at UC Blue Ash that she saw it as a major setback.

"I was scaling a patient and just going through my routine and I had one of the instructors come over and she was like, 'You've missed everything,' and I was like, 'What are you talking about?' and she was like, 'Look here here, here and here,' and I'm like, ‘I can't see. I have no idea what you're talking about,’" Allen recalled.

Throughout the program she and her cohorts joked about the way she saw color, but when Allen realized she may have to quit the program, they stepped up to help.

A group of her friends in the class researched colorblind assisting glasses and contacts trying to find the best match for Allen. They came together and started a GoFund Me page to buy the $400 glasses.

"We even contemplated whether or not giving her the money directly, but we just thought it be just a great moment to share and watch her see color for the first time," said Isabella Perrin.

What a moment it was.

For the first time Allen saw her friends more clearly.

Now the wife and mom is able to live out her lifelong dream of helping others smile a little brighter.

"I don't want anybody to feel like they have to pursue something that they love just because of something that's a disability, because it's not. It's just the way we were born. It's just different," said Allen.
