A dog is being called a hero for signaling her owner needed help at a campground over the weekend.

Fellow campers are also credited with jumping into action.

The dog, Bubba, didn’t have the usual bounce in her step when campers spotted her out walking alone at Wellington Camping Park in Lee on Saturday morning.

The campers said it almost seemed like as if the 10-year-old female boxer was trying to fetch help when she returned to her campsite.

The gave the park manager said it gave her pause.

“The door was open. The dog was inside, right in the doorway, and I called for her owner and she didn’t respond, and I knew there had to have been something wrong,” Holly Dyrkacz, the manager of Wellington Camping Park, said.

Bubba’s elderly owner was rushed to the hospital with a serious medical condition. The park owner said she was found just in time.

“This is a dog that saved her mommy and so she’s a hero,” Patricia Wellington, the owner of the camping park, said.

While Bubba’s owner is in the hospital, all the campground families are rallying to let her know her dog is being taken care of.

“We’ve had people just walking their dogs coming by, saying, ‘Do you need anything?’ We got dog food. We got bones. We got this. We got that. So everybody is trying to help,” camper Carol Baxter said.

And the campers said that, while Bubba’s owner recovers in the hospital, they are bringing her photos of Bubba surrounded by love.
