Jason Smith was conducting his usual patrol when he spotted a kitten standing on top of a barrier wall in busy traffic, reports local station Fox4 in Kansas City.

After calling for help to control traffic on Interstate 29, Smith got out of his car to retrieve the kitten, reports KMBC.

The kitten initially appeared apprehensive about getting in the car, bodycam video of the officer rescuing the feline showed. Luckily, it warmed up quickly.

KMBC reports police don't know how the kitten ended up on top of the wall. After receiving medical treatment, the cat was adopted by Smith's family, who named her Bella, the TV station said.
