A sculpture believed to be from the year 100BC has sparked excitement among conspiracy theorists who swear it shows the modern gadget.

The sculpture, which is kept in the J Paul Getty Museum in Malibu shows a young girl holding up an object to another woman.

While experts believe the object is simply a shallow chest or possibly a wax tablet, online theorists have another idea.

Posting on the YouTube channel StillSpeakingOut , some believe the object is a modern day laptop and evidence of time travel.

According to the computerised narration, the sculpture "depicts an astonishing object which bears a striking resemblance with a modern laptop or some hand-held device."

But some of the commentators on the YouTube video - which has notched up over 45,000 views - see the funny side.

"It's a Pizza. Small size. Pizza guy delivered Pizza to a lazy female customer in an ancient Greek relief. And she's looking at it to check if there is pepperoni on it," wrote one.

Another commented: "Why do you think there was so many wars in ancient greece... Stolen steam account."
