(Bloomberg) -- New York’s top cop is opening an investigation into Facebook Inc.’s collection of 1.5 million users’ email address books without their permission.

The probe by New York Attorney General Letitia James will cover a practice that involved customers who signed up after 2016, she said in a statement.

Facebook didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

“It is time Facebook is held accountable for how it handles consumers’ personal information,” James said in her statement.
