LaVar Ball and Lakers president of basketball operations Magic Johnson are no longer on speaking terms, Ball revealed during an appearance on "The Herd with Colin Cowherd."

According to Ball, Johnson made a few promises that he couldn't keep, which led to Ball having a bad relationship with the organization again:

"Do I get along with Magic? I used to get along with Magic … I don't get along with Magic no more on the fact that I don't talk to him and he said some things he was going to do and didn't do. So now I'm like, 'Okay, I know where you at, so it's alright.' It's okay for people to change they minds and do things but then I got about my business and do what I'm gonna do."

What exactly were those promises?

Ball didn't explicitly say it, but he suggested that the Lakers promised to include LiAngelo Ball on their summer league roster and then they backed out. According to Ramona Shelburne of ESPN, a promise like that was never made.

The Lakers never promised that to LiAngelo Ball during the process and informed him late Thursday night he will not be one of the players they bring to summer league.

Throughout the process, the Lakers told Ball this would be "a merit-based system," as one source put it, and that Ball's workout with the team could have earned him a spot if he had impressed.

LaVar was also critical of the Lakers for making Lonzo available in trades after dubbing him "the new face of the Lakers" during his introductory press conference in 2017.

Ultimately, LaVar's relationship with arguably the most powerful person in the organization means nothing, but it could lead to both parties deciding that a change of scenery would be mutually beneficial sooner rather than later.
