Rep. Nikema Williams on sheltering in-place during U.S. Capitol insurrection

Freshman lawmaker Rep. Nikema Williams (D-Ga.) recalls sheltering in-place at the U.S. Capitol on her third day in office as rioters stormed the grounds. "One of the images I saw was someone parading through the United States Capitol with a Confederate flag. I think at that moment, trying to balance the joy that I felt with Georgia, in the deep South, having just elected Raphael Warnock…In the midst of the lockdown, Jon Ossoff, it was announced his race was called. We were sending a Black man and a Jewish man to represent Georgia in the United States Senate, but at the same time that this was happening, there were people that were trying to remind us that we need to stay in our place."
