Back then of course, her mother (the Queen mum as we knew her) was the Duchess of York, and the Queen was simply known as Princess Elizabeth. She was third in line to the throne when she was born, by C section, in her maternal grandparents' London home. The intimate snap made front page news in May, 1926.
