Biden: U.S. Made 'Commitment' To Militarily Defend Taiwan If China Invades

President Joe Biden said on Monday that the U.S. would help defend Taiwan from a Chinese invasion, should Beijing try and claim the independent island state as its own territory. Biden told reporters in Tokyo, Japan, on Monday that China was flirting with danger in Taiwan by flying close to the island. Speaking about whether the U.S. would defend the island if Beijing attacks, Biden said: "That's the commitment we made." China has repeatedly claimed Taiwan as part of its own territory despite the two countries splitting and separately governing since the 1949 civil war.
