EU President Says Mandatory Vaccines For COVID-19 'Needs Discussion' Amid Omicron Variant

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said Wednesday that the European Union should consider potentially mandating vaccines for citizens. "This needs a common approach," von der Leyen said. "But it is a discussion that I think has to be led." Even though vaccination is a national competence and for member states to make mandatory or not, Von der Leyen said that a common approach and a discussion at EU level would be needed and appropriate.
