Allen West, the Texas GOP leader and candidate for the Republican nomination for governor, announced on Saturday that he had been receiving monoclonal antibody treatment after he was diagnosed with COVID-19.

“My chest X-rays do show COVID pneumonia, not serious. I am probably going to be admitted to the hospital,” West wrote. “There’s a concern about my oxygen saturation levels, which are at 89 and they should be at 95.”

His wife, Angela West also was diagnosed with COVID-19 and received the antibody treatment as well, he said.

West was not vaccinated against COVID-19, but his wife was, he added.

West’s Facebook said he was taking hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin to fight the virus.

On Thursday, West attended a “packed house” Mission Generation Annual Gala & Fundraiser in Seabrook, Texas.

The Trump-supported candidate is running to unseat the incumbent Republican Gov. Greg Abbott in the upcoming election. West was previously the chair of the Texas Republican Party until he announced his resignation last month.

West has been a radical within his own party, as the former congressman has proactively protested any COVID-19 restrictions put into place by Abbott, who is celebrated by conservatives across the country. At one point, West participated in a protest outside Abbott’s home.
