Lusting for those new, larger and spiffier iPhones? The time to move is now.

Apple began taking preorders for the iPhone XS and XS Max models, unveiled Wednesday, with larger OLED screens, a faster A12 Bionic processor and improved cameras.

On Apple's site, both models are available in three versions: 64 Gigabytes, 256GB or 512GB of internal storage. Pricing: the XS starts at $999, the XS Max at $1,099. Phones will be available Sept. 21.

But some Mac-centric sites have reported that select models of the phones, including the iPhone XS with more memory, and the Apple Watch Series 4 ($399-up) have been selling out with delivery times of two weeks after the release.

On the Apple site, for instance, silver iPhone XS Max models had expected delivery dates of Sept. 28-Oct. 5. (You can always join the lines next week at Apple stores nationwide.)

The iPhone XS has a 5.8-inch display, the iPhone XS Max is 6.5 inches. Each is available in three finishes: Silver, Space Gray and Gold. Obviously the new phones are sleek and sexy, but that new processor inside could be a game changer.

"The promised consumer payoff: better photography (though, the current models already take really good pictures), augmented reality and overall speed and snappiness,” said USA TODAY personal technology columnist Edward C. Baig, who covered Apple's event Wednesday and got to check out the new phones.

You can buy your iPhone directly from Apple or you can purchase through your wireless provider.

For a limited time, AT&T customers who add a new line of service and purchase a new iPhone X, XS or XS Max will receive an iPhone 8 or 8+ 64GB at no additional cost, or up to $700 toward an iPhone 8, 8+, X, XS, XS Max).

Verizon customers who buy a new iPhone 256 GB model can get $700 toward a second one (you buy the devices and get monthly credits to your account). T-Mobile is giving $300 in monthly credits to the purchase of a new iPhone on its interest-free installment plan. Qualified customers can also get a new device with no money down.

For a limited time, Sprint is also offering preorders for the iPhone XS 64GB model for no money down with an eligible trade-in phone and a Sprint Flex lease.

Coming next month: the lower-cost iPhone XR (starting at $749), which sports a 6.1-inch LCD liquid display and a single 12-megapixel camera on the back of the device. Preorders start Oct. 19 and the XR is in stores Oct. 26.

Available in six finishes and with 64GB, 128GB and 256GB, the iPhone XR promises an additional 90 minutes of longer battery life than the current 8 Plus model. (The Xs and the XS Max, also have longer battery life, 30 minutes and 90 minutes, respectively.)
