Gridlock in Warsaw as thousands protest abortion ban

Protesters in Warsaw occupy several key roundabouts in the city centre to block traffic and chant anti-government slogans, brandishing the protest symbol -- a red lightning bolt, as thousands of people take to the streets of Poland for a fifth straight day of protests against a constitutional court ruling that would impose a near-total ban on abortion in the EU country. Poland's constitutional court last week ruled in favour of further restrictions, stating that an existing law allowing the abortion of damaged foetuses was "incompatible" with the constitution.
