Protesters rally for 'the right to party' despite COVID concerns
Protesters partied in France and the UK to demonstrate their objection to COVID restrictions. Several hundred danced in the streets of downtown Nantes, protesting the continued closure of clubs and cultural centres. France is now closing on 4 million recorded COVID-19 cases (Johns Hopkins University). As the government seeks to curb its spread, bars, restaurants, museums, and music venues remain closed. In London police cleared a music event, detaining several. Under the current nationwide lockdown only bubble households are allowed to mix. Residents are urged to only leave their homes when necessary. Authorities say these measures need to be taken to alleviate the burden on the healthcare system. However the government is planning to gradually ease restrictions over the coming weeks. The UK has recorded over 4.2 million COVID cases with over 124,000 related deaths (Johns Hopkins University).
