DC social worker collects homeless care packages after viral video

WASHINGTON -- The DC social worker whose video helping calm a homeless man being held at gunpoint by police is now collecting care packages for his friends.

Grace McKinnon discovered the homeless man is actually Anthony Williams, a high school student at Kingsman Academy Public Charter School in Capitol Hill.

She is teaming up with his teachers to get him housing, resources and a bank account for the more than $25,000 she first raised for him.

He is one of dozens of homeless students at the school. She is now collecting "cozy kits" for all 40 homeless students at Kingsman. She is looking for winter clothes, toiletries and non perishable food. To learn more, click here.

"I was one of those 40 kids," said McKinnon. "No one knew I was homeless but my high school teachers would feed me. They literally saved my life and I told them when I can I'm going to give back to help other people."
