1807: Aaron Burr is arrested for treason

After orders by U.S. President Thomas Jefferson, the former vice-president is arrested in Mississippi Territory (now in Alabama) on charges of allegedly planning to create an independent country in present-day Southwestern United States and areas of what is today Mexico. After being acquitted due to lack of evidence, Burr leaves the country for a self-imposed exile.
