Phil Mickelson wins ‘The Match’ in a 22-hole thriller Phil Mickelson is much, much richer this Friday. The left-hander buried a 4-footer for birdie on the fourth extra hole in the showdown with Tiger Woods known as "The Match" to capture the contest. The action was pretty lackluster for much of the front nine, and Mickelson missed a big opportunity to build a sizable early lead. Mickelson didn't have to sulk long, as Woods surprising lipped out a 3-footer for par and the halve at the par-4 second. The 14-time major champion lagged a long eagle putt from off the green at the par-5 seventh to tap-in range after Mickelson hit his third shot from a greenside bunker shot short into another one. Mickelson got the lead gifted right back to him, though, at the par-3 eighth when Woods left a 40-footer some 7 feet short and lipped out his par effort. Woods then pounced on that, knocking a 74-yard second shot to 2 feet at the par-4 12th after Mickelson's approach went 30 feet left of the cup.

PGA Championship heading from Trump Bedminster to Southern Hills in 2022 The 2022 PGA Championship will be held at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Southern Hills Country Club will become the first course to host the event five times when it does so next year. This last PGA Championship played at Southern Hills was won by Tiger Woods in 2007. The news comes just weeks after the PGA of America cancelled the major to be played at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey. SHCC has also hosted three U.S. Opens, the last being won by Retief Goosen in 2001. In a tweet announcing the decision, the PGA of America said, "The course offers a tough-but-fair test for the strongest field in golf.". The 2030 PGA Championship was previously scheduled to be held at Southern Hills. After the announcement for 2022, PGA.com’s list of future sites now lists 2030 as “TBD.”

BRADENTON, Fla. – Word of Tiger Woods being in a single-car accident Tuesday quickly spread over The Concession Golf Club as players geared up for the World Golf Championships-Workday Championship.
The mood on the sun-splashed day quickly soured.
“I’m sick to my stomach,” an emotional, teary-eyed Justin Thomas said during a video conference with reporters. “You know, it hurts to see one of your, now one of my closest friends, get in an accident. Man, I just hope he’s all right. Just worry for his kids, you know. I’m sure they’re struggling.”
Woods, 45, was transported by ambulance to a hospital with multiple leg injuries and was in surgery Tuesday afternoon, according to his agent, Mark Steinberg. In a statement, the L.A. County Sherriff’s Department said police responded to a “roll-over traffic collision” at approximately 7:12 a.m. local time on Hawthorne Boulevard in Rancho Palos Verdes. Later, the Sherriff’s Department confirmed the injuries were not life threatening.
Woods, recovering from his fifth back surgery, a microdiscectomy procedure Dec. 23 that removed disc fragments causing nerve damage, was in California as the tournament host for the Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades. On Sunday, he told CBS’ Jim Nantz that he was going to having an MRI soon that would determine his next steps in the recovery when he got the results.
On Monday, Woods started a two-day content shoot for Golf Digest and GolfTV at Rolling Hills Country Club. Woods gave on-course lessons to a number of celebrities, including David Spade and former NBA star Dwayne Wade. Woods, however, did not show up for Tuesday’s shoot.
