Brian Cashman has pantsed the rest of Major League Baseball. Heard that one before?

When news broke that Cashman completed a trade shipping cast-off starting pitcher Sonny Gray to the Cincinnati Reds for a top prospect and a draft pick, he furthered cemented his reputation as one of the best general managers at pulling off deals that benefit his team.

Gray was never going to be a part of the Yankees long-term future. A once promising starter, Gray struggled in his first full season in the Bronx, posting a 4.90 ERA and only a 0.9 WAR, after a less-than-impressive couple months the year prior. The Yankees starting rotation does not even have room for Gray as it already features  Luis Severino, James Paxton, Masahiro Tanaka, CC Sabathia, and J.A. Happ.

Cashman pulled off a similar series of heists in 2016 when he traded with the Chicago Cubs. Cashman's first move was moving Adam Warren and Brendan Ryan to secure Starlin Castro (who was later used to acquire Giancarlo Stanton). Ryan was later released by Chicago.

Then, Cashman dealt Aroldis Chapman to the Cubs after it became clear that the season was lost. In return, the Yankees got Warren back, Gleyber Torres, and two other prospects. Torres has since turned into a key cog in the Yankees lineup, and after the season, Chapman left Chicago to re-sign with New York.

Cashman's consistent history of winning trades is arguably unmatched in today's league. His continued success is what has helped keep New York in constant World Series contention over the past two decades and what will continue to push the  Yankees into the future.
