New Dodger Manny Machado definitely won over some new Los Angeles fans with comments in his introductory press conference on Friday. While explaining why he decided to pick a new jersey number, No. 8, he revealed that even though he grew up rooting for the Miami Heat, he has always been a huge Kobe Bryant fan, and that he also loves LeBron James.

Baltimore fans may have hoped that Machado chose No. 8 because it was the number Hall of Famer Cal Ripken Jr. wore and had retired by the Orioles, but that is not the case. Machado said (via the Dodgers Highlights video of the presser):

"No, No. 8, I wanted to change up, new beginning, new journey, new team, so I wanted to go that route, and I have to throw an athlete out there. Huge Kobe fan growing up, dog's name is Kobe, so that had a little bit to do with it as well, along with the new beginning."

Then, someone said they heard Machado was a Heat fan, while his wife was a Lakers fan. The four-time All-Star replied:

"Yeah, but I always rooted for Kobe. Who didn't root for Kobe? I like Kobe. I just, at the time I wasn't a Laker fan. You gotta root for your home team, always Miami. D-Wade will always be a part of my life, but Lakers."

And when asked about James, who won two titles with the Heat, joining the Lakers, he said:

"LeBron, that's another key. I love LeBron. I'm a big LeBron fan."

There are lots of Dodgers fans out there who will love the fact that Machado likes the Lakers - and the fact that he said nothing about the Clippers (who Dodgers fans love to boo).

Lastly, here's Machado's adorable dog, Kobe:
