The 76ers have named their new general manager.

According to ESPN, Philadelphia has promoted Elton Brand from vice president of basketball operations to general manager.

Brand has worked in the 76ers front office since 2016 when he was named a player development consultant. He was then named the general manager of the Delaware Blue Coats, the 76ers G-League affiliate, in 2017.

According to ESPN, Brand impressed team ownership and head coach Brett Brown and won the job over several other internal and external candidates.

Brand played 17 seasons in the NBA with the Clippers, 76ers, Mavericks and Hawks. He was the No. 1 pick in the 1999 NBA Draft out of Duke and averaged 15.9 points and 8.5 rebounds in 1,058 career games.

Brand will replace Bryan Colangelo who stepped down as the general manager of the team after allegations surfaced that he was operating burner Twitter accounts which released private medical information and spoke negatively about 76ers players.
