“Dumbest marketing move ever, I’m out” — Mark Cuban throws a fit on “Shark Thank” after contestants pitch a product with the Golden State Warriors logo logo 11/30/2022 Orel Dizon

Mark Cuban served a couple of "Shark Tank" contestants an important lesson - know your audience.

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is clearly not a fan of the Golden State Warriors. However, his disdain for the rival team has apparently spilled off the court. In a recent episode of "Shark Tank," the reality television series of which Cuban is part of the main panel of investors (sharks), a pair of entrepreneurs got on his wrong side for pitching a product that has the Warriors logo.

"Dumbest marketing move ever, I'm out," Cuban said. "Seriously. You got to read the room. Wrong move, wrong time."

Is Cuban still salty?

When his fellow sharks expressed confusion as to why the billionaire was upset, he told everyone in the room about the heartbreak the Mavs endured last season.

"What do you think?" Cuban responded. "The one air freshener in the NBA is the team that beats us in the NBA conference finals. You got to know that could backfire."

Dallas overachieved in the 2021-22 campaign after placing fourth in the West after the regular season. They took care of business in the first round, defeating the No. 5-seeded Utah Jazz in six games.

In the following round, the Mavs faced the top-seeded Phoenix Suns, which they upset in seven games to advance to the Western Conference Finals. Unfortunately, that was the farthest they could reach as they got outclassed by Golden State.

It appears that loss still stings for Cuban, given his reaction to seeing the logo.

Is Cuban the new "Petty King"?

When one of the panels told him that is a bigger man than that, the 64-year-old offered a hilarious response.

"Yeah, I could be," Cuban replied. "But I'm not."

Maybe it's time to anoint him the title of "Petty King," given his reasons for denying the contestants. Incidentally, that title was claimed by Warriors star Steph Curry several months ago.

Even so, Cuban provided entrepreneurs with an important lesson in the business world. When pitching your goods or services, it is necessary to know the audience. Perhaps if the contestants submitted a product with the Mavs logo, they would have gotten in Cuban's good graces.
