According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Kyrie Irving has decided he won’t opt into his $21.3 million deal with the Boston Celtics for the 2019-2020 season.

The deadline for Irving’s decision for the opt-in was Thursday, and he was largely expected to decline the opt-in.

Once the news is officially announced, Irving will become a free agent, able to sign a contract with any other team — including Boston. He’ll presumably be looking for a larger payday than he would get with that deal.
