Zach LaVine injury update: Bulls star to miss upcoming three game road trip

The Chicago Bulls can breathe a sigh of relief.

According to the team, the MRI on All-Star guard Zach LaVine's knee revealed "no significant structural damage" after leaving the Jan. 15 contest against the Golden State Warriors with an injury.

Through 38 games, LaVine is averaging 24.9 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.2 assists on .491/.412/.872 shooting splits. The Bulls are in first place in the Eastern Conference but will have to fight to hold onto the top spot as Miami, Brooklyn and Milwaukee are all breathing down their neck.

What is Zach LaVine's injury?

LaVine appeared to hurt himself just three minutes into Friday's matchup against Golden State. With the Warriors set to inbound the ball with 8:28 left in the first quarter, LaVine intentionally fouled Stephen Curry and walked directly to the Bulls' locker room.

The latest report from The Athletic's Shams Charania states that LaVine just has stiffness in his knee, and the Bulls announced he will be re-evaluated in a week.

How long will Zach LaVine be out?

The Bulls announced on Jan. 16 that LaVine underwent an MRI and it revealed no significant structural damage to his left knee.

The team's update stated, "he is not expected to miss significant time."

On Jan. 19 the latest news on LaVine is that he is "progressing" in his rehab but the Bulls will be without him on their upcoming three-game road trip that starts Jan. 21 in Milwaukee on ESPN. LaVine will remain in Chicago to rehab while the team is on the road.
