Family dynamic is spring-boarding Cal women's gymnastics into elite program

Justin Howell and Elisabeth Crandall-Howell, Cal women's gymnastics co-head coaches and a married couple, have elevated the Golden Bears program since joining in 2012. Shortly before Justin Howell took over the program, the Bears finished the 2012 season ranked 49th nationally. In just two years' time, the Howells led the Bears to a No. 16 ranking with a growing conference and national presence. Cal’s 33-spot rise from 2012 to 2014 marks the largest margin of program improvement in NCAA gymnastics history, a feat only one other school has achieved (Maryland, 1997-99). The Howells' family dynamic continues to grow the program, as Cal enters this week's Pac-12 Women's Gymnastics Championships at No. 16 in the WCGA rankings. Catch the Golden Bears in action on Saturday, March 23, at 5 p.m. PT / 6 p.m. MT on Pac-12 Network.
