A former Ohio State football player was killed in a tragic accident over the weekend when he was struck by a car while walking along the side of the road.

Suzanne Russell of the Bridgewater Courier News reports that 49-year-old Tyrone Harrison, a former fullback at Ohio State, was killed after a car that was involved in a drag race struck him and fled the scene. Police were still searching for the individuals involved in the race as of Thursday.

Harrison was the principal at New Brunswick High School in New Jersey. School athletic director Craig Lowery said Harrison always showed great pride for Ohio State and wanted there to be a connection between New Brunswick and the Buckeyes.

“He always showed tremendous pride in Ohio State,” Lowery said. “He always would talk about playing in the horseshoe (the school’s stadium), and how he wanted to have a connection and pipeline to Ohio State.”
