There’s never a dull moment in college football.

On Monday, Georgia Southern athletic director Jared Benko spoke with local reporters about the firing of head coach Chad Lunsford. During that news conference, Benko revealed that Gavin Adcock, a senior defensive lineman, has been suspended indefinitely.

The reason: Adcock was captured catching a beer from a fan and then chugging it while standing atop the team bus (which was moving) before Saturday’s game against Louisiana. Yes, really.

According to WSAV, Benko said Adcock’s behavior was “not acceptable” and that he will be subjected to the university’s student disciplinary process.

Adcock, in his fifth year with the program, issued an apology Monday and called his actions “foolish.”

“I want to reach out and express my deepest apology for my foolish actions on the bus this past Saturday. I want to apologize to players/coaches present and before me who have paved the way for this great program and institution,” Adcock said.

“What I did was very selfish and is not what we are about here at Georgia Southern. The coaching staff and institution does not condone that type of behavior. For the remainder of my time here I will do everything in my power to reassure my love and commitment to this amazing place.”

Adcock has played in 24 games over the past four seasons, posting 16 tackles, two tackles for loss and a half sack.

Georgia Southern fired Lunsford Sunday after the Eagles dropped to 1-3 with a 28-20 loss to Louisiana on Saturday. Lunsford ends his time at Southern with a 28-21 record. He originally took over as the interim coach in 2017 before being elevated to the full-time role.
