Louisiana-Monroe QB Rhett Rodriguez, son of Rich Rodriguez, in ICU with lung injury

Louisiana-Monroe quarterback Rhett Rodriguez is in intensive care after suffering a lung injury in the Warhawks' Sun Belt Conference victory over Troy on Saturday.

His father, Louisiana-Monroe offensive coordinator Rich Rodriguez, disclosed his son's condition Sunday on Twitter.

The younger Rodriguez went 10 for 16 with 131 yards and a touchdown in helping the Warhawks to a 29-16 victory that ended the team's eight-game conference losing streak.

He transferred to ULM after spending the previous four years as a backup at Arizona under former Wildcats coach Kevin Sumlin. While at Arizona, he completed 51 percent of his passes for 578 yards, three touchdowns and four interceptions.

Both Rhett Rodriguez and his father are in their first year at Louisana-Monroe. Through his first three games with his new team, Rhett Rodriguez is 35 for 62 passing with 337 yards and one touchdown.

Rich Rodriguez previously was the head coach at West Virginia, Michigan and Arizona, compiling a career Division I record of 118-83, with four Big East titles and three seasons ranked inside the top 10 at West Virginia.
